Our mission was to get more young people to vote in the coming election 2018. The target audience was first time voters for the year. In our project we specifically targeted youths in Haparanda. The reason for this is because Haparanda county has one of the lowest numbers of participants in the previous elections. Why?

We found out that there is limited knowledge around Swedish politics, and many residents in Haparanda has a Finnish citizenship and don't even know that they can participate in the Swedish election. So how can we lift the interest and knowledge in these questions?

First of all we want to launch an app with a chatroulette function. The app is suppose to work as a tool for young voters, they can log in without an account and start chatting with communal politicians. The app randomly selects which politician that shows up in the chat, you can ask any questions you want, or just swipe for next representative.

We use directed ads on social media to market the app, and also get help through a local team called Valambassadörerna. Information will also be handed out as flyers to every home, in this way we might get families to start talking politics at home.

Another idea is also to offer an alternative for voting. Special busses will go around to different stops around the county to either pick up first time voters and drive them to the closest polling booth, or offer them to leave their vote on the buss together with the volunteer workers. We hope that this will engage more people to vote and find interest in Swedish politics.

Note: the app should offer different languages and the ads will be written in both Swedish and Finnish, to include everyone.
